OUR HISTORY:
We started with just one racer, Oliver Biggin, in the inaugural season of the Colorado High School Cycling League. For the 4 race series overall, with no coach or organized practices, Oliver came in 20th of 62 JV Boys.
We grew to seven racers - all boys. The team became a nonprofit with the Department of the Treasury and the state of Colorado, with a bank account, sponsors, a team jersey and coaching help from Thane Wright. For the season overall, the Tigers placed 16th of 23 Division 2 teams.
We had 13 racers - 4 girls and 9 boys - with new sponsors and awesome coaches Fred Newcomer and Kyle Stamp. The Tigers placed 6th of 12 Division 1 teams for the season. We had 2 State Champions, Claire VandeYacht, Sophomore Girls, and Henry Trowbridge, Sophomore Boys. Taeler McCrerey took 2nd for the season for Sophomore Girls right behind Claire.
We had 14 racers - 2 girls and 12 boys. The Tigers placed 5th of 14 Division 1 teams for the series. For the season overall, Claire VandeYacht took 3rd place for Varsity Girls.
We had 12 - 2 girls and 10 boys -on our Division 2 team, but only 11 raced and we placed 4th of 44 D2 teams. Undefeated for the whole season, Ezra Smith was the JV Girls State Champion. Slav Uglyar placed 2nd D2 JV Boys for the four race series overall. (Except for Varsity, D1 and D2 boys raced in separate categories.) We gained 2 more valuable coaches, Jaime Brede and Jamie Alford.
Due to its growth, the League split into two conferences - North and South - now racing on Saturdays and Sundays. The League also added a 5th race, a true State Championship race, and set qualification requirements for that race. All category results were now based solely on times with D1 and D2 racers competing directly against each other. With 4 girls and 10 boys, we won all 4 regular season North Conference Division 2 races, earning the 1st place trophy. At the State Championships we won D2 2nd place. Undefeated for the whole season, Ezra Smith won the North Conference series title for Varsity Girls and then became State Champion. Jazlyn Smith won the North Conference series title for Freshman Girls and placed 4th at States. Andrew Dunlap joined the coaching staff.
We raced as a North Conference Division 1 team with 11! girls and 11 boys. As a D1 team, we had 10 point earners per race and our girls consistently contributed to our 3rd place regular season win behind the Boulder and Fairview behemoth teams. At the State Championships, we placed 9th of 23 D1 teams due to unfortunate injuries. Jazlyn Smith took 2nd North Conference JV Girls and 3rd at States. Grace Karoly won the North Conference 1st place title for Sophomore Girls and 2nd place at States. Jeff Boyd and Adam Karch came on board as coaches and Adam brings comfort to the team as our race mechanic.
The Tigers raced as a North Conference Division 2 team with 4 girls and 11 boys. As a D2 team we had 5 point earners per race and this year those point earners were consistently Henry Boyd - our Team Captain and sole Varsity Boy - and our four girls. Opal Koning and Tai-Lee Smith raced JV and Elsa Bates and Aislinn Wehrman raced Sophomore. For the overall North Conference series, Henry Boyd won 4th place Varsity Boys, Tai-Lee won 1st place JV Girls, Elsa won 1st place Sophomore Girls, Aislinn Wehrman tied for 5th place Sophomore Girls and our team won the Division 2 title. At States, Tai-Lee took 2nd JV Girls, Elsa became the Sophomore Girls' Champion and the Tigers placed 3rd of 49 D2 teams. Uri Carlson joined the coaching staff.
Due to its continued growth, the Colorado High School Cycling League reorganized the team divisions and added a Division 3. Division 1 teams had 30+ racers with 15 point earners, Division 2 had 13 - 29 racers with 10 point earners, and Division 3 teams had 1 - 12 racers with 5 point earners. With 33 racers the Tigers were once again a North Conference Division 1 team. We had 5 varsity girls, 2 jv girls, 12 jv boys, 5 sophomore boys, 5 freshman girls and 4 freshman boys. Medal winners for the overall North Conference series were Tai-lee Smith - 5th place Varsity Girls, Lasse Konecny - 5th place JV Boys, Finn Remias - 9th place JV Boys, Max Bonenberger - 10th place JV Boys, Victoria Uglyar - 2nd place Freshman Girls and Samantha Hessel - 5th place Freshman Girls. The team took 4th of 6 NC D1 teams. Medal winners at the State Championships were Tai-Lee Smith - 5th place Varsity Girls, Lasse Konecny - 7th place JV Boys and Victoria Uglyar - 3rd place Freshman Girls. The team took 4th of 11 D1 teams. Duncan Biggin, Paul Koslovsky and Jeff Cospolich joined the coaching staff.
The Tigers team was 35 athletes strong with 34 who raced at least once. Therefore, we were once again a small North Conference Division 1 team. However, we won 3rd of 8 D1 teams at all the regular series races and 3rd of 16 D1 teams at the State Championships, behind Boulder and Fairview. We had 3 varsity girls, 4 varsity boys, 3 jv girls, 13 jv boys, 3 sophomore girls, 2 sophomore boys, 2 freshman girls and 5 freshman boys. Medal winners for the overall North Conference series were Lasse Konecny - 2nd place Varsity Boys, Victoria Uglyar - 1st place JV Girls, Samantha Hessel - 5th place JV Girls, Caleb White - 6th place JV Boys and Marin Ward - 3rd place Sophomore Girls. Medal winners at the State Championships were Lasse Konecny - 10th place Varsity Boys, Victoria Uglyar - 4th place JV Girls, Caleb White - 9th place JV Boys and Marin Ward - 1st place Sophomore Girls. Marin is the 3rd Tigers Sophomore Girls State Champion! Woody Bates, Rich Schroeder and Olivia Andreozzi joined the coaching staff.
The Colorado League split again into 4 regions within its North and South Conferences. Officially, we had 35 athletes registered in the League Pit Zone, including 8 girls, making us a D1 team in the PLATTE region. However, we had varying levels of attendance and commitment to the team, resulting in an average of 19 athletes per practice. Although the 2020 season did not have the excitement of the usual Colorado League racing weekends, we felt so fortunate to be able to practice with the team twice a week to work on our skills and endurance. We enjoyed riding hundreds of miles of Summit County trails together, but apart. We participated in all the League’s special Singletrack Solidarity Challenges. We were lucky to be invited to two independent events in Leadville and Eagle, in which several of our athletes raced hard and placed well. Everyone is looking ahead to next year in anticipation of League racing to resume with all of its fun and friendly competition. Logan Ramsay, Arthur Elmer and Mike Dixon joined the coaching staff.
The Tigers raced as a very small D1 team in the Yampa Region. We won 3rd place for all 3 regular season races and for the Yampa Region overall. Medal winners during the season were Lasse Konecny - 1st place Varsity Boys at Frisco and Granby and for the Region overall. Marin Ward - 2nd place Varsity Girls at Granby. Nico Konecny - 1st place JV Boys for all 3 regular season races, the Region overall and at States! Stanley Buzek - 5th place Sophomore Boys at Frisco, 3rd place at Eagle, 4th place for the Region and 5th place at States. Merrick Neerhof - 2nd place Freshman Girls at Frisco. Aila Harmala - 4th place Freshman Girls at Frisco, Granby and for the Region. At States in Durango the Tigers placed 10th of 17 D1 teams. Jodi Baerg and Hillary Schmidt joined the coaching staff.
Our Yampa Region D2 team had 33 registered riders this year with 28 athletes who participated in at least 1 race. The Tigers earned 23 Yampa Region and 3 State Championships medals this season. 2023: The Tigers raced as a small Yampa Region D2 team with 32 registered riders, including two 8th graders who did not race. We fielded 25, 21, 24 and 24 racers at the 4 regular season races and 18 at the State Championships. We earned the 2nd place D2 trophy for all 4 regular season races, but there were only 3 teams in our division. At States we came in 5th of 25 D2 teams. We won 16 medals this season!
